As we are getting closer to the bond election for the new school. I know there is a lot of information in the community. If you have any questions about the bond or project. Please contact the district office and I would be happy to answer any questions.
The USD 105 Board of Education spent many hours working through the different options for our school district. Since the fire, the Board has met 38 times in meetings open to the public, held four community meetings, conducted two surveys, and spent countless hours working with the community and staff to develop plans as presented. Through those discussions and survey results, the decision was made to take the K-12 option to the community in the August 6th election. The school district also worked with the Rawlins County Commissioners and Kansas Legislature to allow the county to vote on increasing the sales tax to help alleviate the burden on property owners within the school district.
Next Tuesday, June 30th, the district will hold our final community meeting before the election. The meeting will take place at 6:30 in the Elementary School Gym. We will also have the meeting online via the USD 105 YouTube channel. We look forward to sharing our continued progress with the community and answering any questions.
FAQs
With The New K-12 School, Will There Be New Or Expanded Programs For Our Students?
There can be expanded programs. We have not identified new programs yet, however, we have seen other schools have mentorship programs, and we could allow younger students to have more elective-type classes.
Will The K-12 Building Allow For Increased Enrollment, And If So, How Many Additional Students Could Be Added?
We currently have about 16 students in each classroom. Our negotiated agreement with teachers allows us to have up to 22 students per classroom. We have two classrooms per grade so this would allow an increase of 12 students per grade. If this were to occur evenly across all twelve grades, we could increase up to 144 students for the district. Our current enrollment is about 360 students. This would allow a 40% increase in our school district.
Where Can We Get More Info On The Bond?
The Board of Education and the District Administrators have a responsibility to ensure the community is well-informed about the upcoming election. We urge all voters to please join us for our final Community Information Meeting on Tuesday, July 30, 6:30 pm at the Elementary Gym. We encourage you to ask questions, and our district administrators and our architect and contractor team will be available to answer your questions.
