Atwood FFA to National Convention
November 15, 2006
The engines started, the anticipation grew and the trip to Indianapolis Indiana began on October 24, 2006. With more than two thousand miles of driving, twelve Atwood FFA members were able to join over 52,000 FFA members in Blue and Gold Jackets and leave their imprint on Indianapolis. This was the first year for the convention in Indy with new sites to see, new roads to maneuver through and many new and exciting experiences for Jill Bergling, Wendy Fields, Dagan Holliman, Eric Holub, Sierra Lowry, Kayla McCain, Sara Miller, Jordan Mizer, Leah Sharp, Charles Solko, Emily Wahrman, Kevin Wolters as well as the sponsors Laurie Kastens, Susie McCain, Linda Wright and Amber Sharpe.
While traveling they were able to take the 630 foot ride to the top of the Gate Way Arch in St. Louis and see the Mississippi River and the barges that carry a huge variety of items along this river. While in Indianapolis they were able to ride around the Indianapolis Speedway and walk through the museum. They watched Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, and Heartland perform and met people from across the United States, visited over 400 booths at the career show, and experienced the power the Blue and Gold jackets have on this nation, each chapter and each person in this country. The FFA members listened to retiring addresses of the National Officers and learned each of us is above “average”, accepting difference and asking the big question “What If?” It is amazing to see the excitement in the members and hear the new goals they set for themselves. There are comments like, how do you become a National Officer, when do I start becoming a chapter officer, district or state officers. Did you see the BioDiesel booth at the career fair?
The convention was held in the RCA Dome, convention center and Conseco Fieldhouse from October 25th thru the 28th. The convention was kicked off with a speech from Terry Bradshaw followed by the Mega Consort with Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean and Heartland. With a long day and a few miles under our belts we retired for the evening to rally again for the career show. The career show was a highlight for many members as they ran around the Indianapolis convention center learning how to change NASCAR tires, rope calves, talk to college and industry representatives. The sessions are action packed and fill the students with enthusiasm about the FFA and themselves.
